Torah Fund Campaign History

Learn more about Torah Fund
Adath Israel’s Women’s League/Sisterhood has been a strong and consistent supporter of Torah Fund since 1958. Initially, the suggested donation was $6.11. Donations were used to renovate the Mathilde Schechter Residence Halls, the housing for single and married Jewish Theological Seminary students in New York City. After renovations were completed, donations were directed to help rebuild the Kripke Tower, which was severely damaged in a fire. Women’s League renovated the library at JTS to create an egalitarian sanctuary where 95% of the students and visitors attend services. Today, every dollar donated is used to provide scholarships to rabbinical, cantorial and lay education students at JTS and its affiliated schools, List College and the Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education.

Our Women’s League is part of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism. Last year’s Torah Fund Campaign donations totaled $1,837,000. The Mid-Atlantic Region donated over 10% of that total. Our donation goal was $4400. We had 21 donations at the benefactor level, a record number. Adath Israel’s Women’s League exceeded our goal and contributed $4650 in donations during the year we honored Helene Dubin and Debra Radin .

This year, the Torah Fund Honoree Committee has selected 2 women as our honorees, Caryn Rubinstein and Glenda Mendelsohn. As of December 7, we already have 19 benefactors. The benefactors are: Lisa Ganzman, Jan Berger, Fran Abramson, Jessica Harris, Stephanie Loesberg, Debra Radin, Karen Katz, Beverly Rubman, Irene Gross, Janet Cohen, Beth Wallace, Susan Smotrich, Florence Lipstein, Ernestine Urken, Judith Kay, Elaine Sussman, Evette Katlin, Caryn Rubinstein, and an anonymous donor. Any amount of donation is important. Simply donate to Torah Fund. Torah Fund also has a corporate matching program for donations. If you would like your company to participate in the program, the donations should be directed to List College. Call Lisa Ganzman (609) 392-7137 for more information about the corporate matching program.
