Candy Wrapping for Your Simcha
Women’s League will gladly wrap candy for your special events – Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, aufrufs, baby namings, etc. We will buy the candy, netting and color ribbon of your choice, and artfully wrap these pieces to enhance your special day. All proceeds directly benefit the synagogue , in such programs as B’nai Mitzvot gifts, Confirmation gifts, the Purim Carnival, the Hanukkah party and the Sukkot celebration. All checks are made payable to: Adath Israel Women’s League.
How it works: Adath Israel Women’s League volunteers will decorate the baskets. wrap the candies and deliver them to Adath Israel so that on the day of your simcha, all that you’ll need to do is to put the baskets of candy on the bimah steps. Think of the time it will save you—shopping for the candies, netting, ribbon, and wrapping. Additionally you are performing a Mitzvah by purchasing the candies -as the monies go to a variety of programs benefitting Adath Israel.
Price schedule:
100 pieces: $75.00
150 pieces: $113.00
200 pieces: $150.00

Torah Fund Dinner 2011
Learn more about the Torah Fund honoree for 2011, Jan Berger
While Scott and I are both from the east coast, we moved to Lawrenceville from Sylvania, Ohio, in late August of 2001, after Scott took a job in Manhattan. My oldest daughter, Margot had just turned 12 and we needed to pick a temple quickly so she could be enrolled in the religious school in time for her to become a Bat Mitzvah sometime during the year. Our neighbors, who are members of Adath, reached out to us as we literally moved in to our house, to join this congregation. In fact, it was my neighbor, and now friend, Lori Citron who first asked me to join the Torah Fund Committee when Elaine Sussman and Dorothy Robbins were the honorees for that year. The importance of that moment was my introduction to what Torah Fund was and to sisterhood. I have since served on several of Elaine’s committees, including the 85th Anniversary Gala, and Women’s League Spring Brunches.
I participated in the first Adult Bnai Mitzvah class in 2006. I learned trope for Torah Reading and have continued to read Torah several times a year.
The office is always in need of volunteers and while my children were in religious school I would often help out in the office. This led to a position where I worked closely with Rabbi Grossman and Mrs. Morton as the Confirmation Coordinator, ensuring the smooth organization of the Confirmation program. I especially enjoyed organizing the kids to help with the Purim Carnival and being there to support them, since so much of my job was through email. I held this position for 6 ½ years.
I help out on many events as they come up. It is just the way it is here at Adath. You hear the Purim committee needs help setting up, so you say “I’ll be there”. Then you volunteer to read from the Megillah, and help give out the prizes, or clean up. I remember delivering Shalach Manot baskets, not really knowing what they were about until joining Adath.
And then, I was asked to step up and lead our sisterhood, what we now call Women’s League. For four years, (one year as Co-president) I feel I helped keep Women’s League vibrant. As president I became even more involved. Along with an active board, we would come up with program ideas and who we might get to chair them, or sometimes chairing them ourselves. Then, we make ourselves available to help the programs be successful, be it making the flyer, sending out PR to newspapers, getting speakers, buying tablecloths and plastic ware, or setting up for the programs, asking for volunteers, selling raffles, promoting Torah Fund and Women’s League and again asking for volunteers.
As past president I have chosen to remain active on the board (As long as they still want me!) After all, it takes a new president at least a year to figure out the time to plan, implement and promote is months before you think it is. So I continue to make flyers, send out the PR, try to find volunteers, etc. I have enjoyed working with Janice Pincus when we put together the New Year’s Greeting Card, and I enjoy supporting Sylvia whether helping her wrap candy, or just lending an ear as she explains to me how she saves Women’s League money with her careful use of coupons and donations of supplies. I have helped where I can in the Judaic Shop with each of the chairwomen, always expressing my appreciation for their time commitment for that job. I have worked with a great group of women with our Shalach Manot fundraiser
As for Torah Fund, I have always been a supporter of this campaign, especially after attending a Leadership Institute in NYC which took place at the WLCJ headquarters adjacent to the Jewish Theological Seminary. During those three days I slept in the dormitories, which were funded by our campaign, I prayed in the chapel at JTS, also created through our generous donations, and I toured the seminary which our contributions helped build.
The workshops I attended during that time gave me a greater understanding of how strong a community of conservative women we are a part of here at Adath and at large.
I am currently a member of Adath’s Board of trustees and cochair of the membership committee.
