Organizations and Committees

Adath’s many clubs and organizations offer so many opportunities to get involved in synagogue life. An active Men’s Club and Women’s League help keep synagogue life vibrant. Our youth programs provide students the opportunity to participate in social activities locally as well as on a regional and national level.

Chesed Committee:

Stephanie Loesberg

It is a positive Mitzva for Jews to visit the sick, to bring comfort to mourners and to participate in all aspects of the Jewish life cycle. The Chesed committee at Adath Israel is in its’ beginning stages of meeting all needs of our community. In this day and age due to confidentiality rules it is increasingly difficult to know when a congregant or their family is ill or has passed away. The Rabbi depends on family and friends to notify him.
The Chesed committee will then provide a shiva meal delivered to your home or where the congregant is sitting shiva within our community area, purchase an Etz Chayim prayer book in memory of the deceased or will make a donation to an existing fund in our synagogue.
It is tradition that families make reciprocal donations within their means, back to their synagogue to fund ongoing or new projects. This act of Tzedakah allows for the continuation of Chesed, “a pure giving; an unselfish giving that is done to benefit the recipient”.
If you are interested in learning more or in sitting on this committee, please contact Stephanie Loesberg or 609-620-1224.

Board of Education

The Adath Board of Education is a resourceful group of educators and parents committed to the continued success and growth of our Religious School. We deal with policy, budget, curriculum development and evaluation and long-range planning; we define our responsibilities in terms of the overall direction of the School as opposed to its day-to-day operations. In the broadest terms, our mandate is to ensure that the Religious School reflects the values of the synagogue. Given the constraints of an after-school program, we strive to find a properly balanced curriculum that combines the elements of academic rigor, creative programming and the consistent instruction of Jewish values.

Choir

Under the able leadership of Hazzan Katlin, the adult and junior choirs have grown greatly in their performing artistry. Throughout the year, Adath’s choir enhances congregational services, by singing a cappella arrangements of liturgical texts. Special programs for various holidays are also offered.

The choir performs at a variety of outside venues, including yearly communal celebration of Jewish holidays, thanksgiving, the 300th anniversary of Lawrence Township, and yearly communal choral gatherings. The choir serves the community by sharing with senior citizen centers, and other communal programs. Rehearsals are weekly on Thursday nights. Check out the Adath calendar for specific rehearsal and program dates.

The choir welcomes anyone interested in singing Jewish music. We are now recruiting for the High Holiday choir. Music reading knowledge is not required. Just enjoy singing, promoting beautiful Jewish music and having fun.

For further information or to discuss your musical talents, please contact Hazzan Katlin

Religious School PTO

Steering Committee

The mission of the PTO is to support the religious school in fundraising efforts, promoting friendships and social interaction within and without the Hebrew school classroom. The PTO coordinates social and educational activities for each class outside of the Hebrew School. In addition, PTO provides support and assistance to the Eductional Director and teachers when needed with religious school activities. The growth in our school population provides many challenges when planning and conducting special events for our students. Together, the parents and teachers who volunteer in Adath’s PTO work to enrich the children’s experiences. The PTO plays a major role in organizing our Purim carnival, and Chanukah party. They help prepare our Sukkot meal, the children’s seders, and countless other tasks. The PTO also conducts major fund-raising activities. In addition, the PTO serves as a vital link in advocating the interests of Adath’s students and parents to the Adath Israel Board of Education. For more information on PTO, please contact the synagogue office at 609-896-4977.
